There’s nothing like playing ping-pong at 5:15 in the morning.
That’s not anything I’d ever thought I’d say in this lifetime, but an invitation to participate in a preview to an upcoming tournament was too tempting to turn down.
Professional and amateur players alike are expected to compete in Pacific City’s first inaugural ping-pong tournament held overlooking PCH and the Pacific Ocean on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 1 to 5 p.m.
Fifteen tables will be set up for the tournament and there will be giveaways and a chance to meet with professional ping-pong players. Every entrant into the tournament will receive a free Cornilleau ping-pong paddle along with a Pacific City tote bag full of goodies and all-day parking validation. I got to take one of those paddles for a spin and it’s really nice and worth the $20 per person entry fee into the tournament.
Grand prize in the tournament is a $1,000 Cornilleau ping-pong table, but if you want to win you better bring your “A” game. A few of the professionals were at the preview and they play at a different level than I’ve seen before.
All proceeds will be donated to Life Rolls On, a great organization offering support for young people who have been affected by spinal cord injuries.
Sign-ups are available at gopacificcity.com through Saturday morning and registration is also available until 12:30 pm. on the second level of Pacific City under the huge movie screen.
