The very best of L.A. & Orange County

Winter blues got you down? Same here. Living in Orange County may have its perks – like 70 degree weather nearly all year round – but when the temperatures start to creep into the 50s you know you’re in for hot tea and Netflix. Missing the warm sun and all the wonderful activities that go with it have led to daydreams of escaping to new places.

So with all this gloomy weather, we’ve decided to put together a list of what we would pack if we were going on vacation, both tropical and snowy destinations, to help ease our winter depression.

When it comes to tropical getaways, the key is to always be prepared. Hats, towels, beach bags, swimsuits and lightweight dresses are essential – not to mention plenty of sunscreen. Whether you’re headed to Hawaii, or somewhere exotic like the Bahamas, our tropical packing list will have you ready to take on the heat once again.

What to pack for a tropical getaway

Swimwear: Merilee’s Swimwear makes it easy to find swimsuits and bikinis that are flattering, comfortable and stylish. The pattern on this one piece makes us feel like we’re already in a cabana on a tropical island. The low back and lace-up front gives this swimsuit a sexy and playful look.

Dress: With the color appropriately named Casablanca, we couldn’t help but feel that this dress goes perfectly with the vibrant one piece. Sold at Luna Boutique, Amuse Society’s dress is beautiful with two tassels in the front and delicate detailing throughout.

Accessories: Nothing ties a look together like a colorful hat and some strappy sandals! This bright burgundy Brixton hat pairs well with the one piece and the dress, so there’s no need to ditch it while transitioning from one to the other. We also love a good pair of sandals that can easily be worn from the beach to dinner.

Although tropical vacations can make the perfect getaway, destinations with a lower temp can be intriguing as well. With mountains like Mammoth that are driving distance from Orange County, it’s easy to exchange sand for snow. For those who are more inclined to cozy up on vacation and enjoy everything a white winter has to offer, our snowy vacation packing list will have you looking like a cold climate native.

What to pack for a wintery getaway

Coat and scarf: Even beach locals know that a thick warm coat is vital when packing for the snow. No Rest For Bridget’s plaid wool coat will keep you warm on the chilliest of nights. With a hidden button-up closure in the front, you’ll be able to brave the weather without thinking twice. Pair it with a very chic faux fur scarf for additional warmth.

Blouse: It’s a known fact that you can never go wrong with all black. This keyhole top from Luna Boutique instantly creates some sex appeal underneath those layers. When you start warming up indoors, take your coat off and show off this stylish top.

Jeans and shoes: No wardrobe, let alone a suitcase, is complete without a pair of black distressed denim. No Rest for Bridget has the perfect pair for our winter wonderland packing list. With ripped knees and cropped hems, these skinnies create a classic look for your trip. Put the finishing touches on with these Free People booties from laurenly.

Whether your daydreams include exploring sunny beaches or snowy mountains, remember that this cloudy weather won’t hang around for much longer. Before you know it, our beautiful home will be 75 and sunny once again.
